Getting coverage in action sports media was not a challenge for DC Shoes. But when DC wanted to go mainstream to position the company for sale while maintaining its street cred, they turned to CTP. Our pitch to the business media positioned the company as the vanguard of the action sports phenomenon that had grown from cottage industry into a marketing behemoth. We landed DC Shoes a feature story in the Wall Street Journal and placed them in Fast Company’s “Fast 50”, making it the first action sports brand to be recognized by the magazine and only the second footwear brand to receive the honor (NIKE was the other). Shortly after our business media blitz, DC Shoes sold to apparel giant Quicksilver for nearly $90 million.
